Industrial-Strength Surface Preparation

PRIMER-75 is formulated to properly soften and prepare compatible PVC and CPVC pipe and fitting surfaces before solvent cement is applied. Proper preparation of both mating surfaces is an essential part of producing a properly solvent-welded joint.

The fast-acting, water-thin formulation spreads readily across the pipe and fitting socket, allowing the joining surfaces to be prepared before application of the appropriate PVC or CPVC solvent cement.

Wet-N-Dry Performance

The Wet-N-Dry formulation is specially designed for installations where wet conditions may be encountered. Spears® identifies PRIMER-75 for wet conditions and quick pressurization in Turf, Agriculture, Pool & Spa applications.

Proper joining procedures, solvent-cement selection, assembly practices, and applicable set and cure requirements must still be followed before the completed piping system is placed into service.

PVC & CPVC Compatibility

PRIMER-75 is designed for surface preparation of PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings. Spears® lists the primer for all classes, schedules, and sizes of PVC and CPVC, providing broad compatibility across solvent-weld piping applications.

After priming, select the correct solvent cement according to the piping material, pipe size, schedule, service conditions, and installation requirements.

Low VOC Industrial Primer

PRIMER-75 has maximum VOC emissions of 550 g/L per SCAQMD Rule 1168/316A. The product is NSF®/ANSI Standard 14 listed and certified for compliance with ASTM F656 and carries applicable potable water, DWV, and sewer listings.

PRIMER-75 has also achieved GREENGUARD GOLD Certification to UL 2818. Keep the container tightly sealed between uses to reduce solvent evaporation, and do not add solvents because doing so may alter primer performance.

Installation & Selection Considerations

  • Use with PVC or CPVC.
  • Keep the container tightly sealed.
  • Do not add solvents to the primer.
  • Prepare both joining surfaces before cementing.
  • Use the correct solvent cement for the piping system.
