Cleaner & Primer in One Product

PRIMER CLEANER-64 combines two important surface-preparation functions in one product. It removes grease, oil, and dirt from bonding surfaces while also acting as a primer that penetrates and softens compatible PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings.

This combined action prepares properly fitted components for the application of the appropriate solvent cement and helps simplify the surface-preparation process before solvent-cement welding.

PVC & CPVC Compatibility

PRIMER CLEANER-64 is formulated for PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings and can be used with all types, classes, and schedules of these compatible piping materials.

Always confirm that the pipe and fitting material is PVC or CPVC before application and select the appropriate Spears® solvent cement for the material and intended piping system.

Purple Identification

The purple formulation provides visible identification of where the primer cleaner has been applied, making it easier to verify coverage during preparation of compatible PVC and CPVC connections.

Proper application should cover the required bonding surfaces without allowing the product to puddle inside the fitting or piping system, and the solvent-cement joining procedure should follow current Spears® instructions.

Surface Preparation for Solvent Cementing

As a primer, PRIMER CLEANER-64 penetrates and softens the surfaces of compatible PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings so they are properly prepared for solvent-cement bonding.

PRIMER CLEANER-64 is not itself the final joining cement. After surface preparation, the correct solvent cement must be applied according to the requirements of the selected PVC or CPVC piping system.

Installation & Selection Considerations

  • Use with PVC or CPVC.
  • Keep the container tightly sealed.
  • Confirm the piping material before application.
  • Apply to the required pipe and fitting bonding surfaces.
  • Follow with the appropriate solvent cement for the selected piping system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What color is PRIMER CLEANER-64?

This PRIMER CLEANER-64 product is purple, providing visible identification of the applied primer cleaner on compatible PVC and CPVC pipe and fitting surfaces.

What is PRIMER CLEANER-64 used for?

PRIMER CLEANER-64 removes grease, oil, and dirt while also penetrating and softening PVC and CPVC bonding surfaces before solvent-cement joining.

What materials can PRIMER CLEANER-64 be used with?

Spears® PRIMER CLEANER-64 is intended for compatible PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings.

What pipe schedules can PRIMER CLEANER-64 be used with?

PRIMER CLEANER-64 is suitable for all types, classes, and schedules of compatible PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings.

Does PRIMER CLEANER-64 also clean the pipe surface?

Yes. In addition to its priming action, PRIMER CLEANER-64 removes grease, oil, and dirt from the bonding surfaces before solvent-cement joining.

Does PRIMER CLEANER-64 replace solvent cement?

No. PRIMER CLEANER-64 prepares the PVC or CPVC bonding surfaces, but the appropriate solvent cement must still be applied to create the finished joint.

Why should the container remain tightly sealed?
