Galvanized Grooved Standard Flexible Coupling

ARGCO’s Model 104 standard flexible grooved coupling is designed to join carbon steel pipe while allowing controlled axial displacement and angular deflection. This flexibility helps accommodate thermal expansion, vibration, and minor misalignment in piping systems.

Available in sizes from 1" through 12", the Model 104 is suitable for Schedule 10 and Schedule 40 carbon steel pipe and is rated for working pressures up to 300 psi (2517 kPa).

Typical Applications

Ideal for fire protection systems, water supply systems, and process piping where movement, vibration, or thermal expansion must be accommodated. Frequently used in seismic applications and systems requiring compliance with NFPA 13 flexible coupling requirements.

Construction Details

Housing segments are manufactured from ductile iron conforming to ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12 for strength and durability.

Standard gasket is pre-lubricated Grade E EPDM (Type A), suitable for cold and hot water up to 230°F (110°C), oil-free air, and a range of water-based services.

Standard bolts and nuts are carbon steel with zinc electroplated finish per ASTM B633 Type III.

Important Notes

Working pressure and end load values are based on standard weight (ANSI) steel pipe with roll or cut grooved ends in accordance with ARGCO specifications.

Flexible couplings allow axial displacement and angular deflection; however, design allowances should be reduced to account for jobsite conditions and installation tolerances.

For sprinkler systems, NFPA 13 specifies the use of flexible couplings to protect against seismic activity and system movement.
