Description

Standard Rigid Grooved Coupling

ARGCO's Model 101 Standard Rigid Grooved Coupling is an angle-pad design rigid coupling engineered for moderate pressure piping services including fire mains, long straight runs, and valve connections. Its rigid joint design restricts axial and angular movement while helping resist “snaking” in long straight pipe runs.

Designed for carbon steel pipe systems, Model 101 is available in sizes from 1" through 12" and offers working pressures up to 300 psi. It features ductile iron housings, Grade E EPDM gasket options, zinc-electroplated carbon steel hardware, and is certified by UL, ULC, and FM for fire protection and piping applications.

Key Features

  • Rigid coupling design restricts axial and angular movement
  • Angle-pad housing provides offset clamping action for a secure joint
  • Helps prevent “snaking” in long straight pipe runs
  • Sizes available from 1" to 12" (25–300 mm)
  • Maximum working pressure up to 300 psi
  • Compatible with Schedule 10 and Schedule 40 carbon steel pipe
  • Ductile iron housing per ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12
  • Grade E EPDM gasket for water and oil-free air service
  • Zinc-electroplated carbon steel bolts and nuts
  • Swing-over installation possible with removal of one bolt
  • UL, ULC, and FM listed/approved

Typical Applications

Ideal for fire protection systems, water supply systems, and general process piping requiring a rigid grooved joint. Commonly used in fire mains, long straight piping runs, and valve connections where movement must be minimized. Installation practices align with ANSI B31.1, B31.9, and NFPA 13 standards.

Construction Details

Housing segments are manufactured from ductile iron conforming to ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12, providing strength and durability. Standard coating is orange enamel, with optional hot dipped galvanizing available.

The standard gasket is Grade E EPDM (green stripe) with a temperature range of -29°F to 230°F, suitable for hot and cold water, oil-free air, and a wide range of chemical services.

Hardware includes oval neck track bolts and heavy-duty hex nuts made from carbon steel, zinc electroplated per ASTM standards. Stainless steel hardware options are available for corrosion-resistant applications.
