ABS-to-PVC Transition Joining
ABS to PVC-94 is specifically designed for transition joints where compatible ABS piping must be joined to compatible PVC piping in a non-pressure system. The formulation provides a dedicated alternative to standard ABS or PVC cements when the joint contains both materials.
This product should be used only for ABS-to-PVC transition connections and should not be used to join ABS to ABS or PVC to PVC. Standard material-specific solvent cement should be selected when both sides of the connection are the same material.
Non-Pressure Sewer & DWV Applications
The cement is suitable for compatible sewer and drain, waste and vent applications where an ABS-to-PVC transition is required and the piping system operates as a non-pressure system.
ABS to PVC-94 is not intended for pressure piping, so the system type and local installation requirements should be verified before using the cement for a transition connection.
Fast-Setting, Medium-Body Formula
The medium-bodied, fast-setting formulation provides manageable application characteristics while supporting efficient assembly of properly prepared ABS-to-PVC interference-fit connections.
Its green color clearly identifies the material as transition cement, helping distinguish it from standard ABS and PVC solvent cements during installation and inspection.
Proper Primer Application
When preparing an ABS-to-PVC transition joint, primer should be applied only to the PVC material. Spears® specifies that primer should not be applied to the ABS side of the connection.
Material identification should always be confirmed before assembly, and local codes should be reviewed before using ABS to PVC-94 inside a building or in any application where transition-joint requirements may vary.
Installation & Selection Considerations
- Confirm both piping materials.
- Do not use on Schedule 80 piping.
- Use only on non-pressure systems.
- Apply primer only to the PVC side of the joint.
- Verify local code acceptance before completing an ABS-to-PVC transition.

Frequently Asked Questions
What color is ABS to PVC-94?
Spears® ABS to PVC-94 is green. The distinctive color helps identify the product as transition cement intended specifically for ABS-to-PVC connections.
How fast does ABS to PVC-94 set?
ABS to PVC-94 is a fast-setting, medium-bodied transition solvent cement designed for properly prepared compatible ABS-to-PVC connections.
Can ABS to PVC-94 be used on pressure piping?
No. ABS to PVC-94 is specifically designed for ABS-to-PVC transition joints in non-pressure piping systems.
Can it be used to join PVC to PVC?
No. ABS to PVC-94 should not be used to join PVC to PVC. A suitable standard PVC solvent cement should be used when both components are PVC.
Can it be used to join ABS to ABS?
No. ABS to PVC-94 should not be used to join ABS to ABS. A suitable ABS solvent cement should be used when both components are ABS.
What size pipe can ABS to PVC-94 be used with?
It is suitable for compatible all-class and all-schedule interference-fit connections through 6" diameter, except Schedule 80 piping.
Should primer be used with ABS to PVC-94?
Primer should be applied only to the PVC material. Spears® specifies that primer should not be applied to the ABS side of the transition joint.
