Construction Details
The Type D fitting features an aluminum body with a female cam & groove coupler on one end and female NPT threads on the opposite end.
The female camlock end accepts a compatible male cam & groove adapter. Two cam arms close around the mating adapter to draw it against the gasket inside the coupler and secure the quick-connect connection.
The female NPT end threads onto compatible male NPT pipe, nipples, valves, pumps, tanks, manifolds, or other threaded equipment.
Connection Configuration
Female Camlock Coupler
The female cam & groove end accepts a compatible male camlock adapter of the appropriate nominal size. Closing both cam arms secures the mating adapter inside the coupler.
Female NPT
The opposite end provides female National Pipe Taper threads for installation onto compatible male NPT piping, fittings, valves, pumps, tanks, or equipment.
How a Type D Camlock Works
Install the female NPT end onto the appropriate male threaded connection using a suitable pipe-thread sealant when required for the application.
To make the camlock connection, open both cam arms and insert a compatible male cam & groove adapter into the female coupler. Close both cam arms using normal hand pressure to secure the connection.
For disconnection, safely depressurize the system first, raise both cam arms, and remove the male adapter from the female coupler.

Type D vs. Type A
Type D
Female Camlock x Female NPT
Type D provides a female cam & groove coupler with cam arms combined with a female NPT threaded connection.
Type A
Male Camlock x Female NPT
Type A provides a male cam & groove adapter combined with a female NPT threaded connection and is a common mating configuration for a Type D coupler of the same camlock size.
Common Applications
Water & Agricultural Transfer
- Water-transfer systems
- Irrigation equipment
- Agricultural tanks
- Pump connections
- Transfer hose systems
- Portable liquid-transfer equipment
Industrial & General Fluid Handling
- Industrial liquid-transfer systems
- Compatible petroleum-transfer applications
- Tank and tote connections
- Construction dewatering systems
- Plant maintenance applications
- General liquid handling
Installation & Selection Considerations
- Confirm both the female camlock size and female NPT thread size before ordering.
- Match the female coupler with a compatible male cam & groove adapter.
- Use an appropriate thread sealant on the female NPT connection where required.
- Inspect the gasket, cam arms, pins, threads, and mating adapter before use.
- Verify aluminum, gasket, pressure, temperature, and transferred-media compatibility for the application.

Our hose, fitting, and industrial product specialists can help review your camlock size, NPT thread size, connection configuration, material requirements, and fluid-transfer application before you order.
