Construction Details
The Type A fitting features a brass body with a male cam & groove adapter on one end and female NPT threads on the opposite end.
The male camlock adapter inserts into a compatible female cam & groove coupler. The cam arms located on the mating female coupler close around the adapter to secure the quick-connect connection.
The female NPT end threads onto compatible male NPT pipe, nipples, valves, pumps, tank connections, manifolds, or other male-threaded equipment.
Connection Configuration
Male Camlock Adapter
The male cam & groove end inserts into a compatible female camlock coupler of the appropriate nominal size. The cam arms on the mating female coupler secure the adapter in position.
Female NPT
The opposite end provides female National Pipe Taper threads for installation onto compatible male NPT pipe, nipples, valves, pumps, tanks, manifolds, or other threaded components.
How a Type A Camlock Works
Install the female NPT end onto the appropriate male threaded connection using a suitable pipe-thread sealant when required for the application.
To make the camlock connection, insert the Type A male adapter into a compatible female cam & groove coupler. Close both cam arms on the mating female coupler using normal hand pressure to secure the connection.
For disconnection, safely depressurize the system first, open the cam arms on the mating female coupler, and remove the Type A adapter.

Type A vs. Type D
Type A
Male Camlock x Female NPT
Type A provides a male cam & groove adapter combined with a female NPT threaded connection.
Type D
Female Camlock x Female NPT
Type D provides a female cam & groove coupler with cam arms combined with a female NPT connection. A properly sized Type A adapter can connect directly with a compatible Type D female camlock coupler.
Common Applications

Installation & Selection Considerations
- Confirm both the male camlock size and female NPT thread size before ordering.
- Match the male adapter with a compatible female cam & groove coupler.
- Use an appropriate pipe-thread sealant on the female NPT connection where required.
- Inspect the adapter, threads, mating gasket, cam arms, and pins before use.
- Verify brass, gasket, pressure, temperature, and transferred-media compatibility for the application.

Our hose, fitting, and industrial product specialists can help review your camlock size, NPT thread size, connection configuration, brass material requirements, gasket compatibility, and fluid-transfer application before you order.
