Blue Monster Nickel Guard is manufactured from a dense PTFE tape impregnated with nickel powder. The formulation consists of approximately 90% PTFE and 10% nickel.

The nickel flakes act like tiny bearing plates between mating threaded surfaces. This helps separate the male and female metal threads during tightening and loosening, reducing direct metal-to-metal contact that can contribute to galling or seizing.

At approximately 0.0045" thick, Nickel Guard is heavier than many conventional PTFE thread sealing tapes. The increased thickness and density help provide an effective thread seal while also delivering anti-seize benefits.

Stainless steel threaded fittings can be susceptible to galling, a form of adhesive wear that can occur when mating stainless steel threads slide against one another under pressure.

Nickel Guard is specifically designed to help address this problem. The nickel particles embedded throughout the PTFE tape act as separating surfaces between the male and female threads while the PTFE provides thread lubrication and sealing.

This combination can make threaded stainless steel components easier to assemble and can help simplify future disassembly during equipment service or piping maintenance.

Traditional installations may use separate thread sealing and anti-seize products. Nickel Guard combines these two functions into a single tape.

The PTFE portion fills thread gaps and provides lubrication during assembly, while the nickel content helps reduce the risk of galling and seizing.

This makes Nickel Guard a clean and efficient alternative where installers want to avoid messy paste-style anti-seize compounds.

The PTFE tape has a published operating range of -450°F to +500°F (-268°C to +260°C). PTFE remains stable through the normal published operating range of the tape.

The embedded nickel itself has a melting point of approximately 2,651°F (1,455°C), allowing the nickel particles to continue providing anti-seize assistance at temperatures well beyond the normal PTFE operating range after the polymer portion is no longer present.

Always verify the temperature limitations of the complete piping assembly. The lowest-rated pipe, fitting, valve, gasket, seal, tape, or equipment component determines the allowable system operating range.

Nickel Guard is wrapped around the male pipe threads before assembly. As the male and female threads are tightened together, the PTFE conforms to the thread surfaces and fills small gaps that could otherwise form spiral leakage paths.

At the same time, nickel flakes dispersed throughout the tape help keep mating metal surfaces separated, reducing friction and direct metal contact.

The combination provides thread sealing, lubrication, and anti-seize protection in one application.

• Confirm that Nickel Guard is compatible with the piping material and service.
• Inspect male and female threads for damage before assembly.
• Clean excessive dirt, oil, debris, and contamination from the threads.
• Wrap tape onto the male threads in the direction of thread engagement.
• Keep the first thread or two clear where appropriate to reduce loose material entering the system.
• Apply sufficient overlapping wraps according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Press the tape firmly into the threads during application.
• Assemble the mating threaded fitting using appropriate tools.
• Avoid excessive tightening, especially with plastic piping components.
• Inspect and test the finished connection according to applicable system requirements.
