Description

Lead-Free Curb Stop Ball Valve - MIP to CTS

Lead-Free Curb Stop Ball Valve - MIP to CTS provides dependable shutoff control while transitioning between a male iron pipe threaded connection and compatible Copper Tube Size tubing. This mixed-connection design is useful in water-service installations where threaded piping must connect directly to CTS tubing while maintaining an accessible isolation point.

The lead-free brass valve body and quarter-turn ball valve operation make this curb stop suitable for compatible potable-water, residential, commercial, municipal, utility, and general water-service applications.

Product Highlights

  • Lead-free brass construction
  • Curb stop ball valve design
  • MIP x CTS connection configuration
  • Quarter-turn shutoff operation
  • Transitions between threaded pipe and CTS tubing
  • Compact in-line valve configuration
  • Suitable for compatible water-service and potable-water systems

Technical Specifications

Product Type Curb Stop Ball Valve
Material Lead-Free Brass
Connection Style MIP x CTS
Valve Type Ball Valve
Operation Quarter Turn
Connection Function Transition Between Male Threaded Pipe and CTS Tubing
Primary Function Water-Service Shutoff / Isolation

Construction Details

The valve features a lead-free brass body with a male iron pipe threaded connection on one end and a CTS connection on the opposite end.

The MIP end threads into a compatible female-threaded fitting, valve, adapter, or equipment connection, while the CTS end connects to compatible Copper Tube Size tubing used in water-service piping.

An internal rotating ball controls flow through the valve. Quarter-turn operation moves the ball between the fully open and closed positions for quick isolation of the service line.

Connection Configuration

MIP Connection

The male iron pipe threaded end installs into a compatible female-threaded fitting, valve, adapter, manifold, or piping component.

CTS Connection

The opposite end connects to compatible Copper Tube Size tubing commonly used in water-service installations.

How the Curb Stop Ball Valve Works

Open Position

When the opening through the internal ball is aligned with the valve body, water can flow through the valve.

Closed Position

Rotating the operating mechanism approximately 90 degrees turns the solid portion of the ball across the flow path to isolate the water line.

MIP to CTS Transition

The MIP x CTS connection configuration combines two functions in one valve: service-line shutoff and transition between different connection styles.

This design can simplify installations where a female-threaded piping component must connect directly to CTS tubing without requiring a separate threaded adapter between the valve and piping system.

Lead-Free Brass Construction

Lead-free brass is commonly selected for compatible potable-water and water-service installations where applicable lead-content requirements must be met.

Confirm the selected valve meets the applicable plumbing code, utility requirements, certifications, pressure rating, temperature limits, and installation requirements for the specific system.

Common Applications

Water Service & Plumbing

  • Water service lines
  • Potable-water service
  • Residential plumbing
  • Commercial plumbing
  • Building service connections
  • Maintenance shutoff points

Municipal & Utility Service

  • Municipal water systems
  • Utility service connections
  • CTS water-service tubing
  • Meter service installations
  • Service-line isolation
  • Water-distribution systems

Selecting the Correct Curb Stop Ball Valve

Selection Point What to Confirm
Valve Size Confirm the valve size matches the service-line requirements.
MIP Connection Verify the male pipe thread matches the female-threaded component being connected.
CTS Connection Confirm the CTS end matches the tubing used in the water-service installation.
Lead-Free Requirement Verify lead-free construction is required for the intended application.
Operating Conditions Confirm pressure, temperature, plumbing-code, utility, and complete system requirements before installation.

Installation & Selection Considerations

  • Confirm the required valve size and MIP x CTS configuration before ordering.
  • Verify the female-threaded mating connection and CTS tubing dimensions before installation.
  • Use a thread-sealing method appropriate for potable-water service and brass threaded connections on the MIP side.
  • Install the valve so the operating mechanism remains accessible for service and shutoff operation.
  • Verify applicable lead-free, pressure, temperature, plumbing-code, utility, and local installation requirements before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Lead-Free Curb Stop Ball Valve - MIP to CTS?

It is a quarter-turn water-service shutoff valve with a male iron pipe threaded connection on one end and a Copper Tube Size connection on the other.

What does MIP mean?

MIP means Male Iron Pipe and refers to the external threaded connection on one end of the valve.

What does CTS mean?

CTS means Copper Tube Size and identifies the tubing connection on the opposite end of the valve.

Why use an MIP x CTS curb stop?

It combines a service-line shutoff valve with a transition between a compatible female-threaded component and CTS tubing.

How does the ball valve operate?

The internal ball rotates approximately 90 degrees between the open and closed positions, providing quarter-turn shutoff operation.

Where are curb stop valves commonly installed?

They are commonly installed in compatible water service lines where an isolation point is needed for maintenance, service, or shutoff control.

Should thread sealant be used on the MIP connection?

Use a thread-sealing method appropriate for brass threaded connections, potable-water service when applicable, and the requirements of the piping system.

What should I confirm before ordering?

Confirm the valve size, MIP x CTS configuration, mating female-threaded connection, CTS tubing compatibility, lead-free requirements, pressure, temperature, and water-service installation requirements.

Important Ordering & Installation Notes

  • Lead-free brass curb stop ball valve.
  • Connection configuration is MIP x CTS.
  • Confirm the male-threaded connection and CTS tubing dimensions before ordering.
  • Use an appropriate thread-sealing method on the threaded connection.
  • Verify lead-free, pressure, temperature, plumbing-code, utility, and application requirements before use.
