Air King AM8 Chicago Fitting Universal 2-Lug Coupling

The AM8 uses Dixon's Air King® two-lug coupling design to connect with compatible universal fittings used on compressed-air and water systems. The lugs engage the mating coupling through a short rotational movement rather than requiring a threaded connection between the two coupling halves.

This arrangement supports applications where hose or equipment connections need to be made and disconnected regularly. Confirm that the mating fitting uses the compatible Air King® universal lug pattern before installation.

The opposite side of the AM8 incorporates a 3/4" female NPT/NPTF connection for attachment to compatible threaded components. This allows the universal coupling interface to be added to manifolds, piping, air tools, or other threaded equipment.

Inspect the mating male threads before installation and use suitable thread-sealing practices for the intended air or water system. Avoid excessive tightening that could damage the fitting or connected component.

Dixon supplies the AM8 with a safety clip and AWR4 rubber washer. The washer provides the sealing surface between connected Air King® fittings, while the safety clip helps prevent the coupling halves from becoming accidentally disconnected.

The safety clip should pass through the mating fitting holes only after the coupling is fully locked. Dixon states that one Air King® safety clip or wire-type retainer is required for each universal coupling connection.

Dixon rates the AM8 to 150 PSI at an ambient temperature of 70°F and identifies Air King® couplings for air and water service only. Dixon specifically warns that Air King® couplings must never be used for steam service.

For additional protection against coupling breakage and related hose hazards, Dixon recommends using a whip hose. Operating pressure, hose condition, safety retention, and the connected equipment should all be reviewed before the system is placed into service.
