Construction Details
The Type DA fitting features a durable brass body combining a female cam & groove coupler on one side with a male cam & groove adapter on the opposite side.
The female coupler side uses cam arms to secure a compatible male camlock adapter. The opposite male adapter side inserts into a compatible female camlock coupler and is secured by the cam arms on that mating coupler.
This configuration allows two different nominal camlock sizes to be joined without adding threaded adapters between the connections, making Type DA particularly useful as a reducing or jump-size cam & groove fitting.
Connection Configuration
Female Camlock Coupler
The female cam & groove side accepts a compatible male camlock adapter. Closing the cam arms secures the mating adapter against the gasket inside the coupler.
Male Camlock Adapter
The opposite side provides a male cam & groove adapter that inserts into a compatible female camlock coupler. The cam arms on the mating female coupler secure this connection.
How a Type DA Camlock Works
Type DA fittings are designed to provide a direct transition between a female camlock coupler and a male camlock adapter, commonly with different nominal connection sizes.
On the female side, insert a compatible male adapter and close the cam arms using normal hand pressure. On the male side, insert the Type DA adapter into a compatible female coupler and close the mating coupler's cam arms.
For disconnection, safely depressurize and drain the system as appropriate before opening the cam arms and separating either cam & groove connection.

Why Use a Type DA Fitting?
Connect Different Camlock Sizes
Type DA fittings are commonly used when the female camlock connection on one side of a system is a different nominal size from the male camlock connection required on the other side.
Quick-Connect Transition
Because both ends use cam & groove connections, the fitting maintains the convenient quick-connect functionality of the surrounding camlock system without requiring a threaded transition between the two sides.
Common Applications
Water & Agricultural Transfer
- Water-transfer equipment
- Irrigation systems
- Agricultural transfer equipment
- Pump connections
- Tank connections
- Portable transfer systems
Industrial & General Fluid Handling
- Industrial liquid-transfer systems
- Compatible petroleum-transfer equipment
- Construction applications
- Tank and tote connections
- Pump and process equipment
- General liquid-handling systems
Installation & Selection Considerations
- Confirm both camlock connection sizes before ordering; Type DA fittings may have different sizes on each end.
- Remember that the female coupler size and male adapter size are separate connection dimensions.
- Inspect the gasket, cam arms, pins, body, and mating camlock components before use.
- Do not connect or disconnect cam & groove fittings while the system is pressurized.
- Verify brass, gasket, pressure, temperature, and transferred-media compatibility for the application.

Our hose, fitting, and industrial product specialists can help review your female coupler size, male adapter size, connection configuration, brass material requirements, gasket compatibility, and fluid-transfer application before you order.

What is a Type DA cam & groove fitting?
Type DA combines a female cam & groove coupler with a male cam & groove adapter. It is commonly used as a reducing or jump-size fitting between different camlock sizes.
Is Type DA a hose-barb splice fitting?
No. A standard Type DA cam & groove fitting is a female camlock coupler x male camlock adapter. It does not use hose-shank connections on either end.
Can the two Type DA connection sizes be different?
Yes. Type DA fittings are commonly designed specifically to transition between different nominal female-coupler and male-adapter sizes.
Which side of a Type DA fitting has cam arms?
The female camlock coupler side has the cam arms. The male adapter side is secured by the cam arms on the mating female coupler.
What material is this Type DA fitting made from?
This Type DA cam & groove fitting features brass construction.
What is another name for a Type DA fitting?
Type DA fittings may also be described as reducing coupler x adapter or jump-size coupler x adapter fittings.
How do I choose the correct Type DA size?
Identify the required female camlock coupler size and male camlock adapter size separately. Both dimensions must match the corresponding connections in your system.
Can cam & groove fittings be used for compressed air or steam?
No. Cam & groove couplings should not be used for compressed air or steam service.
Important Ordering & Installation Notes
- Confirm both camlock connection sizes before ordering.
- Type DA configuration is female camlock coupler x male camlock adapter.
- Do not confuse Type DA with a hose-barb x hose-barb mender.
- Use only with properly sized compatible cam & groove components.
- Verify brass, gasket, pressure, temperature, and application compatibility before use.
