Description

Grooved Reducing Coupling

ARGCO's Model 105 Grooved Reducing Coupling is engineered to provide a direct reduction within a piping system, eliminating the need for separate concentric reducers and additional couplings. This streamlined design improves installation efficiency while maintaining a rigid, secure joint.

Designed for carbon steel piping systems (Schedule 10 and Schedule 40), Model 105 supports working pressures up to 300 psi. Its rigid joint design restricts axial and angular movement, while a specially engineered gasket helps prevent telescoping of smaller pipe into larger pipe during vertical installations.

Key Features

  • Provides direct pipe size reduction without additional fittings
  • Rigid coupling design restricts axial and angular movement
  • Prevents telescoping of smaller pipe during vertical assembly
  • Maximum working pressure up to 300 psi (2517 kPa)
  • Compatible with Schedule 10 and Schedule 40 carbon steel pipe
  • Ductile iron housing per ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12
  • Grade E EPDM gasket (Type A) for water and oil-free air service
  • Zinc-electroplated carbon steel bolts and nuts per ASTM standards
  • Optional stainless steel hardware available (316 SS)
  • UL, ULC, and FM listed/approved

Typical Applications

Ideal for fire protection systems, water supply systems, and high-pressure process piping where a reduction in pipe size is required. Commonly used in vertical piping assemblies and system transitions where maintaining a rigid joint is critical.

Construction Details

Housing segments are manufactured from ductile iron conforming to ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12, ensuring durability and structural integrity. Standard coating is orange enamel, with optional hot dipped galvanizing available for enhanced corrosion resistance.

The standard gasket is Grade E EPDM (Type A), suitable for hot and cold water, oil-free air, and a range of chemical services within a temperature range typical of EPDM applications.

Bolts and nuts are carbon steel with zinc electroplating per ASTM B633.

Important Notes

Model 105 reducing couplings should not be used with end caps, as system draining may cause the pipe end to be drawn into the coupling. These couplings are designed as rigid connections and do not accommodate thermal expansion or contraction.
