Construction Details

The SCI® Press Copper 90° Elbow is manufactured with a copper alloy body conforming to UNS C12200. The press connection incorporates a Grade “E” EPDM sealing element with silicone grease.

SCI specifies the peroxide-cured EPDM seal for an operating temperature range of -20°F to 248°F. The EPDM material is recommended for water service, diluted acids, alkaline solutions, oil-free air, and many other compatible chemical services.

For sizes 2-1/2" through 4", the SCI Press Copper fitting system incorporates a Grade 304 stainless steel fastening grip ring and a nylon spacer as part of the larger-diameter press connection design.

Important: SCI specifically states that the EPDM seal is not for use in petroleum applications.

90° Press-to-Press Configuration

90-Degree Direction Change

The SP690 elbow redirects the copper tubing run by 90 degrees, providing a compact right-angle change in direction for compatible plumbing and mechanical piping systems.

Press x Press Ends

Both ends use SCI Press connections. Compatible copper tubing is inserted into each fitting end and the connection is completed using an appropriate pressing tool and jaw.

SCI® Press Copper Connection

SCI Press Technology provides a mechanical copper piping connection that eliminates the need for conventional soldering or brazing. The system is compatible with common pressing tools and jaws.

SCI Press Copper Fittings are intended for use with ASTM B88 Types K, L, and M hard copper tubing from 1/2" through 4" and soft copper tubing from 1/2" through 1-1/4".

Fittings are approved for above- and below-ground installations where permitted by applicable local building codes.

ASTM B88 Copper Tubing Compatibility

Hard Copper Tubing

SCI Press Copper Fittings are intended for use with ASTM B88 Types K, L, and M hard copper tubing in sizes from 1/2" through 4".

Soft Copper Tubing

SCI also specifies compatibility with ASTM B88 soft copper tubing in sizes from 1/2" through 1-1/4".

EPDM Sealing Element

The SCI Press Copper system uses a peroxide-cured Grade “E” EPDM O-ring. SCI lists an operating temperature range of -20°F to 248°F for this sealing material.

The EPDM seal is recommended by SCI for water service, diluted acids, alkaline solutions, oil-free air, and many other compatible chemical services.

Fluids containing hydrocarbon-based oils are not compatible with the EPDM seal. Do not use these fittings in petroleum applications.
