SCI® Press - Copper 90° Reducing Elbow combines a 90-degree change in direction with a reduction between two different copper tubing sizes in one compact press fitting.

Identified by SCI as Fig. SP690R, this reducing elbow uses a Press x Press reducing configuration and is manufactured from copper alloy conforming to UNS C12200. The SCI Press Copper system incorporates peroxide-cured Grade “E” EPDM sealing elements and provides a mechanical copper piping connection without conventional soldering or brazing.

Construction Details

The SCI® Press Copper 90° Reducing Elbow is manufactured with a copper alloy body conforming to UNS C12200. Its two press connections are sized differently so the fitting can reduce between compatible copper tubing sizes while simultaneously changing the piping direction by 90 degrees.

The SCI Press Copper connection incorporates a Grade “E” peroxide-cured EPDM sealing element with silicone grease. SCI specifies an EPDM operating temperature range of -20°F to 248°F.

SCI recommends the EPDM material for water service, diluted acids, alkaline solutions, oil-free air, and many other compatible chemical services.

Important: SCI specifically states that fluids containing hydrocarbon-based oils are not compatible with the EPDM seal and that these fittings are not for use in petroleum applications.

90° Reducing Configuration

90-Degree Direction Change

The SP690R redirects the copper tubing run by 90 degrees, making it useful where the piping layout needs to turn at a right angle.

Built-In Size Reduction

The two press ends are different nominal sizes, allowing the elbow to transition between larger and smaller compatible copper tubing without adding a separate reducer to the piping arrangement.

SCI® Press Copper Connection

SCI Press Technology provides a mechanical copper piping connection that eliminates the need for conventional soldering or brazing. The system is compatible with common pressing tools and jaws.

SCI Press Copper Fittings are intended for use with ASTM B88 Types K, L, and M hard copper tubing from 1/2" through 4" and soft copper tubing from 1/2" through 1-1/4".

SCI states that its Press Copper fittings are approved for installations above and below ground where permitted by applicable local building codes.

Hard Copper Tubing

The SCI Press Copper fitting system is intended for use with ASTM B88 Types K, L, and M hard copper tubing in sizes from 1/2" through 4".

Soft Copper Tubing

SCI also specifies system compatibility with ASTM B88 soft copper tubing in sizes from 1/2" through 1-1/4". Always confirm that both sides of the reducing connection are compatible with the tubing being installed.

EPDM Sealing Element
