Tube Preparation & Pressing

Proper copper tube preparation is essential for the SCI Press connection. The tubing should be cut square and all burrs should be removed from the inside and outside of the tube before assembly.

Inspect the sealing element for correct fit, mark the required insertion depth, and insert the tubing until it contacts the fitting stop. Use the appropriate compatible pressing jaw and visually verify the insertion mark before completing the press cycle.

EPDM Sealing System

The SCI Press Copper system uses peroxide-cured Grade “E” EPDM sealing elements. SCI lists an operating temperature range of -20°F to 248°F for the EPDM sealing material.

The EPDM seal is recommended by SCI for water service, diluted acids, alkaline solutions, oil-free air, and many other compatible chemical services.

Fluids containing hydrocarbon-based oils are not compatible with the EPDM seal. Do not use SCI Press Copper EPDM fittings in petroleum applications.
