Four-Way Cross Design

The weld cross configuration provides four connection points within a compatible aluminum piping system. This allows multiple pipe runs to intersect at a common fitting within fabricated welded piping layouts.

Confirm the required nominal pipe size and schedule for each connection before ordering.

6061-T6 Material Properties

T6 temper 6061 aluminum has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 42,000 psi (300 MPa) and a yield strength of at least 35,000 psi (241 MPa). More typical values are approximately 45,000 psi (310 MPa) ultimate tensile strength and 40,000 psi (275 MPa) yield strength.

In thicknesses of 0.250" (6.35 mm) or less, the material has an elongation of 8% or more. In thicker sections, elongation is 10%. T651 temper has similar mechanical properties.

The typical thermal conductivity value for 6061-T6 at 80°C is approximately 152 W/m K.

Fatigue Characteristics

A material data reference defines the fatigue limit under cyclic loading as 14,000 psi (100 MPa) for 500,000,000 completely reversed cycles using a standard RR Moore test machine and specimen.

Aluminum does not exhibit a well-defined “knee” on its S-N fatigue graph, so there is some debate regarding how many cycles should be considered equivalent to “infinite life.”

The actual fatigue limit for a specific application can also be significantly affected by conventional de-rating factors, including loading conditions, gradient, and surface finish.
