Description

Copper Coupling without Stop - C x C

Charman Inc. Copper Couplings without Stops provide a straight connection between two compatible copper tube sections while allowing the fitting to slide along the tubing during installation. The C x C configuration uses cup-style connections on both ends, while the no-stop design provides additional positioning flexibility for repair, retrofit, and replacement work.

Unlike a standard coupling with an internal center stop, this fitting can slide completely over compatible copper tubing. This allows the coupling to be moved out of the way while a replacement tube section is positioned and then slid back across the joint for soldering.

Product Highlights

  • Copper straight coupling
  • No internal center stop
  • C x C cup-style connections
  • Copper construction
  • Solder / sweat installation
  • Allows coupling to slide along compatible copper tube
  • Useful for repair, retrofit, and replacement applications
  • Connects equal-size copper tube sections

What Is a No-Stop Copper Coupling?

A no-stop copper coupling is a straight fitting without an internal center stop. The unobstructed interior allows the coupling to slide farther along compatible copper tubing instead of stopping at a fixed insertion point.

  • Joins two equal-size copper tube sections
  • Provides a straight inline connection
  • No internal center stop
  • Allows sliding movement along compatible tubing
  • Designed for solder / sweat joining

Why Does the No-Stop Design Matter?

Sliding Installation

The unobstructed interior allows the coupling to slide completely over a compatible tube section, providing additional freedom when positioning piping before the joint is completed.

Repair Access

During certain repairs, the coupling can be moved away from the joint while a replacement tube section is positioned and then slid back across the connection for soldering.

No-Stop vs. Rolled-Stop Coupling

No-Stop Coupling

Does not include an internal stop, allowing the fitting to slide along compatible copper tubing. This configuration is especially useful when the piping cannot be moved apart enough to install a conventional stopped coupling.

Rolled-Stop Coupling

Includes an internal stop that limits tube insertion from each side and provides a positioning reference for the tube ends during a standard inline installation.

Why Use a Coupling without a Stop?

Repair Work

The sliding design can simplify replacement of damaged copper tube sections within an existing piping run.

Flexible Positioning

Without an internal stop, the coupling can be moved along the tubing as needed before final positioning and soldering.

Straight Connection

Provides an inline connection between compatible equal-size copper tube sections without changing piping direction.

Common Applications

Plumbing & Mechanical

  • Copper water piping
  • Mechanical piping systems
  • Copper tube extensions
  • Equipment piping
  • Maintenance work
  • Piping modifications

Repair & Retrofit

  • Replacing damaged copper tube sections
  • Repairing existing piping runs
  • Retrofit installations
  • Closely spaced tube connections
  • Fabricated copper assemblies
  • Applications requiring sliding coupling placement

How to Select the Correct Coupling

  • Identify the nominal size of the copper tubing.
  • Confirm that an equal-size straight connection is required.
  • Verify that C x C cup-style connections are appropriate for the installation.
  • Determine whether the installation requires the coupling to slide along the tubing.
  • Use a rolled-stop coupling instead when an internal tube-positioning stop is preferred.

Installation Guidance

  • Verify the nominal copper tube size before installation.
  • Cut compatible copper tubing squarely and remove burrs as appropriate.
  • Clean the tubing and fitting cups before soldering.
  • Apply appropriate flux according to the joining procedure.
  • Slide the coupling fully onto one tube section when required for the repair or installation method.
  • Position the adjoining tube and slide the coupling back across the joint.
  • Because there is no internal stop, confirm tube insertion depth and joint alignment manually.
  • Confirm adequate engagement of both tube sections before soldering.
  • Use proper soldering and heating procedures for copper joints.
  • Allow completed joints to cool before disturbing the assembly.
  • Test the completed piping system for leakage before placing it into service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a no-stop coupling?

A no-stop coupling does not have an internal center stop, allowing it to slide farther along compatible copper tubing during installation.

What does C x C mean?

C x C indicates cup-style connections on both ends designed to receive compatible copper tubing for solder / sweat joining.

Why use a coupling without a stop?

The sliding design is useful when the coupling needs to move completely over a tube section before being repositioned across the final joint, as can occur during repair and retrofit work.

How is a no-stop coupling different from a rolled-stop coupling?

A no-stop coupling has an unobstructed interior that allows it to slide along the tube. A rolled-stop coupling includes an internal stop that limits insertion and helps position the tube ends.

Does a no-stop coupling require manual positioning?

Yes. Because there is no internal stop to establish insertion depth, the installer must confirm that both tube sections are properly engaged and positioned before soldering.

Does this coupling change the direction of the piping?

No. It is a straight coupling designed to join two compatible copper tube sections in line with one another.

Important Ordering Notes

  • Verify the nominal copper tube size before ordering.
  • Confirm that an equal-size straight coupling is required.
  • Verify that C x C solder / sweat connections are appropriate for the installation.
  • Confirm that a no-stop coupling is required rather than a rolled-stop coupling.
